USE BULLETS AND/OR NUMBERING!

You have a lot of good content, maybe too much density. Break it up and make it less daunting to read and easier to follow step-by-step. Make sure that your formatting is consistant. Check boldness and spacing especially throughout.

that's all! looks good, very detailed. - annie

Also...

  • Do not use first person, e.g., "I find it best".
  • Shannon-Weiner should be Shannon Index.
  • There are two free software programs for analyzing biodiversity: PAST and EstimateS, http://www.nhm.uio.no/norlex/past/download.html and http://viceroy.eeb.uconn.edu/estimates, respectively. PAST is PC only. EstimateS is mac and PC.
  • "e.g. - Gulf of Mexico" is too big an area for a college field project. Maybe something like, "your college campus or the nearby state park or estuary".
  • I suggest switching the order of Simpson and Shannon, Simpson's Index is better for smaller sample size.
  • You might mention something about Recognizable Taxonomic Units (RTU) vs. Species, “Morphospecies” or “Parataxonomic Unit” (PU)).
