Description

The program offers first-hand experience of Japanese life through a three-week home stay in two contrasting settings: rural Toyooka or urban Tokyo. Participants will choose one of the locations. The Toyooka program will offer Japanese language classes, cultural workshops, and field trips. The Tokyo program will participate in regular classes of the Comparative Culture Department of Tamagawa University in Tokyo, and work closely with their students both in and outside of classes. The classes were tailored for the interest and needs of Evergreen students, and this program prepares students for advanced Japanese studies programs.

More information and application procedures are available at blogs.evergreen.edu/experiencejapan. Interested students must contact faculty via email by April 15th. Explanatory meetings will be held March 30 and April 6 from 1-3 p.m. in Lab 2, 3rd floor Fish Bowl Room.

Required Fees: $2800 for travel costs including airfare, host family fee, and living costs for three weeks in Japan
