REVISED
Summer 2014 quarter
Taught by
This program introduces students to the theories, research and pedagogies specific to teaching English language learners (ELLs) in adult and K-12 classroom settings. We will explore the role of family and community in the language acquisition process and identity formation among ELLs. Also, we will analyze how history, political climate, and educational policies impact the quality of schooling of ELLs receive. By using Washington state’s K-12 English Language Development standards and the TESOL (Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Language) standards for adult ELLs, we will engage in curriculum planning, teaching and assessment strategies.
