How to change the security permissions on a Directory or File on Evergreens academic web server Coyote.
- Objective: Set appropriate permissions to enable users to make modifications to a web accessible database, they must have permission to write to the database file.
- Note: if you might need to password protect more that one file, create a directory and set the permissions on the directory. All new documents you create within that directory will inherit its permissions.
- From a Windows machine on the Evergreen Campus create a new directory in your web space.
- Use Network Neighborhood to locate the domain academic_computing and find the server Coyote.
- Find your directory and create a new folder. File > New > Folder
- Enable the directory to receive your custom permissions while still copying the standard set of permissions it was initially given.
- Right click on the folder and select Properties
- Select the Security tab
- Set your custom permissions
- From the Security tab window select the group Everyone and add write and modify permissions from the lower check boxes.
- Click OK
