How to change the  security permissions on a Directory or File on Evergreens academic web server  Coyote.

  • Objective: Set appropriate permissions to enable users to make modifications to a web  accessible database, they must have permission to write to the database file.
  • Note: if you might need to password protect more that one file, create a directory and set  the permissions on the directory. All new documents you create within that  directory will inherit its permissions.
  • From a Windows machine on the Evergreen Campus create a new directory in your web space.
    • Use Network  Neighborhood to locate the domain academic_computing and find the server Coyote.
    • Find your  directory and create a new folder. File > New > Folder
  • Enable the directory to receive your custom permissions while still copying the standard set of permissions it was initially given.
    • Right click on the folder and select Properties
    • Select the Security tab
  • Set your custom  permissions
    • From the Security  tab window select the group Everyone and add write and modify permissions from  the lower check boxes.
    • Click OK
