RESEARCH:HELP - Authors
Amanda “Smarty Pants” Petersen:
I am a senior studying information and library science at Evergreen. I have spent my college career skipping from one research project to the next in the never-ending of quest to explore the historical evolution and exchange of all types of information. In other words, I like to research…I think it’s fun.
Justin Johnson:
I cant really say for sure what it was that brought me to the Library Sciences, but I can say that its not all shelves and books. Having started in Spring '04 taking research classes, and then traversing into archival studies and finally into the this internship I have had a great time with my classmates as we have attempted to wrap our minds around the complex theories of technology, data, information and knowledge as they encircle and evolve around us. As fun as it has been, I will be continuing into graduate school moving gracefully from information and the technologies and into the preservation and conservation of more concrete structures, such as books and library materials. A trade that may prove fruitful as the computer continues its slow, deliberate march towards world domination.
Lloyd Wilson:
An undergraduate, in my third year of college I have had the opportunity to study many things. My newest studies are: organizational learning, management, webpage design, and the effects of the Internet on society and education. My contributions have been a part of Still Looking, a library internship program at the Evergreen State College.
Lori Klatt Maurice:
Research has been an integral part of my learning experience both at the University of Wisconsin and at The Evergreen State College. I view the research process as a “treasure hunt”-an unearthing of information to enrich my knowledge about a subject which I can use to share with others my interest in a chosen topic. As a student balancing a full-time job and part-time studies, time management is very important to my life. The research skills I own have helped me to more efficiently find the information I need in my everyday life-such as mining the Web-as well as my studies in Math, Chemistry, Computer Science, History, Sociology, Psychology, and Library Science. Trips to the Bookmobile with my father when I was a kid filled me with a lifelong passion for books and libraries.
Viktoria Brenan:
Still Looking marks my final quarter as a Senior at Evergreen. During this four years, most of the programs I have been in have been science/environmental studies programs, involving considerable research using the library resources, the internet, as well as field work. Nearly all of my programs have included a computer facet. I worked for two years for ResNet in Housing. I also worked in the library as part of circulation during my Junior year.
Subjects I've studied include: ecology, ethnobotany (Salish), vertebrate evolution, convergent evolution, fuctional morphology, animal behavior, natural history of Washington, as well as participating for one quarter in the program which produced the book "Defending Wild Washington."
I've spent a lot of time in the libraries since childhood. I'm geeky that way...
