Arts, Environment and the Child: Walking the Wheel of the Seasons

Barry Lawrence

I’m interested in a career in environmental education field. I have finally discovered my calling. I enjoy working with children and seeing their faces light up when they discover something new in their natural surrounds. The small things we take for granted children seem to notice the finer details.

After spending 14 years serving in the military. Where most of my experiences required me to go into a semi-peaceful situation and then leave the area in total annihilation, thus resulting in a massive environmental nightmare. I have since turned a new leaf, so to speak.

I currently volunteer with South Sound GREEN (Global Rivers Environmental Education Network), which provides a water quality education program involving nearly 1200 students (from grades 4-college) annually on issues concerning our local watershed. GREEN also provides instruction on water quality monitoring, benthic macroinvertebrate sampling and conservation action projects.

Projects:

Primary: South Sound GREEN

Secondary: Longhouse Ethnobotany Garden

Secondary: Web Page Development
