Wardlaw, Hampl & DiSilvestro [Nutrition Calc Plus should be packaged with
it]
Fundamentals of General, Organic & Biological
Chemistry
4 th ed by McMurry & Castellion
Special
Expenses: $20 lab fee
Chemistry labs require the use of goggles, and they are
usually available in lab, but you can purchase your own pair in the bookstore
for under $5. A basic calculator will also be required.
Class Expectations:
1.
Regular attendance and
participation in class discussions and activities is expected of all
students. It will be essential for students to attend all of the sessions, as
the amount of information missed in a class will be substantial. If an
absence occurs, it is the student's responsibility to get notes / handouts from
a classmate or the class webpage.
2. Assignments will be completed and submitted
on time. No late assignments will be accepted. If you cannot make
it to class, you can put it in our mailboxes: Seminar II B2124. Cindy accepts emailed assignments; these
must be received by midnight of due date.
If a student has an ‘extraordinary circumstance’ it is their
responsibility to contact the instructors ASAP and make arrangements, prior to
due date.
3.
Labs are where new chemistries are confirmed and are fun, so please attend all
labs. Missing a lab is not good; it is
hard to observe your preparation, participation, and lab notebook &
write-up.
4. There will be 4 quizzes, which are
clearly marked on the schedule. The
quiz questions come from the assigned “text problems” shown below and posted on
the winter class schedule web page.
5.
All students must submit a self-evaluation by March 15th. Evaluation conferences will be mandatory,
and held on Monday March 20th and Wednesday March 22nd 6- 10 pm.
Credits will be awarded based on class participation/attendance, lab
write-ups, and homework assignments.
Credits
will be awarded in Chemistry, Chemistry Lab, Food Science and Nutrition
