Repeatable Modules

[edit] Problem

By their very nature projects pose problems that we have not faced before. Without prior knowledge of the best way to go about achieving the goals laid out by a project we run the risk of not finishing on time and under budget.

[edit] Context

Repeatable models are like little golden nugget of common (or uncommon) sense that you can call upon when dealing with a unfamiliar project. There are many things that we cannot predict and thus cannot have a repeatable model for right away, but there are things we know more or less as fact from the get go; Things like planning meetings so that your whole staff can come or hire extra help before you need it.

[edit] Discussion

Many projects are implemented with the help of repeatable modules. This project is an excellent example; Each pattern is a repeatable module.

The idea of course is that when many project tasks take the same form, it will be easier for people to accomplish the tasks as they go along. Also, with repeatable modules, administration and monitoring is presumably easier, since scheduling, resource use, personnel assignments, etc. can be more routinized.

[edit] Solution

It may seem obvious, but it is not done often enough, use what you know to create workable "repeatable models" that will fix problems before they appear. In other words use what you know.
