[edit] Problem

With all projects, reflection and criticism is crucial for a well-developed final product; however, finding time for reflection can be difficult as well as developing and/or using constructive reflection because there are all kinds of reflections and criticism.

I specifically faced a problem with to much information to combine in my final edit. I was forced to over reflect and start over numerous times leading to postponing of a final product.

[edit] Context

Reflecting on a project can be useful in many different ways. It can help you in future projects by making you look back at what you did right and what you did wrong, what you would change if you were to do the same project over or a similar project again. It can give you time to feel good about what you have accomplished or understand better the project management skills you would need to work on in the future. Also, if a project is finished before its deadline, then a period of reflection could assist with figuring out anything it is lacking and compensating for that. All in all it is a very useful tool.

[edit] Discussion

UPDATE Losing a DV tape full of footage was a chance for my team to re-evaluate what the most important aspects of the scenes were. Consequently, when we returned to the scene for the second time we were able to shoot with more conviction and a better understanding of what we wanted to convey.

[edit] Solution

Set aside time for personal and or group reflection. If you have, say an art project, leave time in your schedule for reflection. Show your art to others and hear their responses. If you do this before the project needs to be completed, then if you or others see room for improvement, then there is still time to work on it. Or, if it is too late in the game to make any significant or even minor changes to your project, you can continue working on it later or start it over again as a new project.
