After reading the text I thought about museums and how they effect artists and their work. Is the museum necessary to bring hundreds of people to view the work? Is it necessary to have hundreds of people view it, engage in it? Looking back on the artists who have inspired or effected me, I don't feel it is entirely necessary. Many of Ana Mendieta's installations were not in museums and yet they were equally as powerful. However, she did show documentation of them in museums. Did only seeing the photographs or films take away from her work? Jerome Sans questions if the, "museum is really a place for experimentation." (81). For site specific works it would seems as though a museum would only hinder a true experience many artists strive for in their audience.
