Dave Hickey is one of the most enjoyable authors I’ve read for some time now.  I like the fact that he’ll take real world examples to make a point just about anything giving the reader that they too can relate to.  One thing that I read that I thought was very successful was his dissection of Las Vegas as his home.  He turns this town inside out just to show that it has nothing to hide, which seems to be its only secret.  The people are people and though they may be different they still come together to do the same things (Bruce Willis and Shannen Doherty shooting dice with everyone else and people from different cultures coming together to play jazz).  Hickey’s take on the everyday is one that makes the reader look back on their own experiences differently.
