On alternate weeks, beginning with week 2 (for Seminar
Group A), each student will write a short essay (3-5 pages) on an
assigned topic and distribute in to all members of her or his Writing
Group. Each
member of the Writing Group will provide a written critique the essay. Following
this critique, the writer will revise the essay and submit the revised
version to the faculty. (Revised essays from Tuesday’s
Writing Group will be due on Friday morning of that week; those from
Thursday’s Writing
Group will be due on the following Monday.)
Students may substitute a different topic, provided they
are willing to defend it as something that explores the assigned text
as well as the faculty's topic.
The critique should address these questions, at least:
1. Is the writer’s objective clear?
2. Is the organization of the essay evident and effective?
3. Does the author make a good case for her or his conclusions?
4. Are there technical errors that college level writers cannot afford
to make?
