I completely spaced on what was being brought so I'm hesitant to guess. Anything lacking? Let me know!-Anthony

Anthony: Week 9

Submitted by simant05 on Mon, 06/04/2007 - 8:20pm.

Tonight I'm putting the final touches on my video before my presentation tomorrow. A few things won't be finished but nothing will be added or removed as far as content goes. I still want to spend more of the week mixing the audio because there's alot of it and I'm getting alot of popping sounds in the reverb effects. So I've got that and the credits to finish for friday. Alot of people were involved in this project and I want to take the time to thank each one thoroughly.

I'm feeling much better about my project. I've reached the point of accepting that it exists and that I created it: a big step. But I am eager to let it float down stream and to face an audience on it's own. I want to be done with making explanations and excuses for it.

Recommendation:

See Symbiopsychotaxiplasm if you're interested/involved in narrative film. It will knock you on your ass and might make you despise your chosen art form.

Anthony: Week 8

Friday:

composed the score with my friend chris. i've decided to take his piano score and make the electronic side by sampling it as i do in my own music production. this has felt great so far, it just might work.

Saturday:

filmed quick hospital flashback with Nicola. its gonna take alot of heavy editing to pull off, i'm afraid to look at it.

Up to now:

i read Ben Blankenships recent post and i feel i could easily copy and paste it into my own. i always go through this in every production at this point in the process. recently though ever project i start i'm always convinced i won't end up in the self-loathing section because this time everything is gonna work out right. i'm sure i'll never reach this unless i become completely disinterested with my own filmmaking.

I tried to recreate the weird fever dreams I'd have as a kid.

Anthony: Week 7

Submitted by simant05 on Mon, 05/21/2007 - 11:44am.

So all the work that requires several people at once is finished. I only have editing and scoring to complete. Today I'm working on a rough cut of the community room scene which I'll be showing tomorrow. I've decided to pop the "question" in full tomorrow since I'll have a scene for the class to chew on.

Editing:

The community scene, like the opera scene, is a daunting task because I shot too much coverage. The hospital hall was a breeze because it mostly consisted of master shots that simply had to be strung together. I have a control problem in the editing suite. The thought that a good scene is out there but can only be found through just the right cuts is enough for a panic attack. Someday I'd like to pass my footage to an editor who approaches editing as an art. Someone who can come up with something I never imagined. (making reference to Bertolucci's "The Conformist").

Scoring:

I may be taking the scoring process for granted. My good friend Chris Jones offered to do it after we got along so well with "How to be a Good Kisser" (a guerilla scoring effort where we snuck into SCCC's facilities and got kicked out after our final take). I'm imagining (counting on) the same fluid process as before and I hope I get it.

Opera Scene Revision:

I'm taking Julia's advice on shortening the scene. It's all a bit silly but I think I can cut the silliest out.

Anthony: Week 5

So the 10th and 11th shoot is going to go through (in one form or another). I've got enough people, places, and things to make my scenes work. I've got the good and bad stress running through me and I'm eager to get through it. Thanks to all who are lending a hand!

Monday: general hustle of grabbing props/supplies

Tuesday: full day of class

Wednesday: hustle 2 (the final hustle)

Thursday: bringing my actors from Seattle to Olympia, shoot in the evening

Friday: Shoot 2 (the final shoot)

Anybody have some tips on what to feed my actors? I was thinking a large stack of P.B. and J's with lots of bottled water, maybe some chips, baguette with humus? Is this a sad display of appreciation? Note: I'm dealing with ALOT of people these 2 days...

Back on track with production. I have 2 more shooting days, May 10th and 11th. This week I'm meeting with my minor actors and gathering props. Saturday I meet with my main actor in Seattle to prepare. I could still use some more extras (hint).May 10th is going to be in COM 320 from 4pm-8pmMay 11th is going to be in the 2nd floor hallway of LAB I. (time still not settled)

Goal Statement

Submitted by simant05 on Tue, 04/24/2007 - 8:26am.

Spring Quarter Goal Statement

1. My first goal is to finish the project I began in the fall. Though the atmosphere for this piece is becoming less and less ideal, it’s important that I trudge forward and finish what I started. The point is to be active, make mistakes, and learn from them, not to hold out until the settings are perfect.
2. Another goal I have is to complete my DVD portfolio design and be able to represent the bulk of my creative work on it. The basic layout is done but I still have to insert my files. I want to take the time to properly compress each one.
3. A final goal involves my experimentation with cut-out animation. I’ve already completed the project I set out to do in my contract but will start on the pre-production for a piece to be done this summer.

cut-out animation

Submitted by simant05 on Mon, 04/23/2007 - 8:29pm.

After experimenting with cut-out animation during fall quarter in S.O.S. I was curious to try a small project of my own this Spring. The result is a small piece I like to see more as a test. I really need to learn proper timing/movement but overrall I'm satisfied with it. I'm interested in taking an animation course this summer.
