Coastal Conservation Association

What is CCA?

The CCA-PNW is an advocacy group for salmon, steelhead, and our other Northwest fish. Our job is to give voice to this precious resource that cannot defend itself against destruction.

Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) is a non-profit organization comprised of 17 coastal state chapters spanning the Gulf of Mexico, Atlantic and Pacific coasts. CCA's strength is drawn from the tens of thousands of recreationalsaltwater anglers who make up its membership. From South Texas to the upper reaches of Maine, CCA's grassroots influence is felt through state capitals, U.S. Congress and, most importantly, in the conservation and restoration of our coastal marine resources.

CCA has been active in virtually every national fisheries debate since 1984 and has participated productively in state and federal fisheries management issues for longer than two decades. CCA continues to operate as a three-tiered organization, affecting issues on the local, state and national levels.

CCA's unmatched breadth and depth of volunteer involvement has made it the largest marine conservation group of its kind. Its grassroots network and unique combination of membership, fundraising and advocacy have enacted positive change on all levels of coastal marine conservation and management. When called into action, the impact of CCA's grassroots machine is unparalleled.

Through broad-based recreational angler support, a strong legal and legislative presence, more than 30 years of experience and an unwavering vision for the future of U.S. and global marine resources, CCA will continue to battle for the health and longevity of our coastal fisheries and for recreational anglers' interests in them.

Native Fish Society

The Native Fish Society is a non-profit organization founded in 1995. Our goal is the conservation, preservation and restoration of wild fish in the Pacific Northwest. We work to establish effective fish management policies based on the latest scientific research, and we encourage the public to get involved in this process.

Our Purpose The Native Fish Society advocates for the conservation, protection and restoration of native fish populations in the Pacific Northwest. NFS works with public agencies and governments to get native fish conservation policies implemented and to ensure that native fish policies are indeed followed once implemented.

The Native Fish Society is involved in public policy decisions and promotes scientifically-based solutions to fish management problems. We also encourage the involvement at both the administrative and personal levels by the public by educating them about the beauty, mystery and value of native fish and their environment.

Our Mission

To advocate scientifically sound conservation, protection and recovery actions for native fish and their habitats in the Pacific Northwest To monitor and influence public agency management decisions in favor of native fish To produce educational materials on native fish conservation through scientific reports, newsletters, action alerts, and the media To inventory and monitor the status and health of native fish populations and improve our understanding of native fish ecosystem function

Wild Steelhead Coalition

The Wild Steelhead Coalition Mission Statement

The Wild Steelhead Coalition (WSC) is an organization dedicated to increasing the return of wild steelhead to the waters and rivers of the Pacific Northwest.

Wild steelhead are an important legacy to the Pacific Northwest and have undeniably been reduced to a fraction of their once historical capacity. Over harvest, habitat degradation, poor hatchery practices, construction of impassable barriers to migration, and misguided management strategies have all contributed significantly to the decline, and in some cases extinction, of wild fish runs. Without a change in policies and attitudes, these same factors will continue to reduce and extirpate wild steelhead.

Save Our Salmon

About Us

Save Our Wild Salmon is a nationwide coalition of conservation organizations, commercial and sport fishing associations, businesses, river groups, and taxpayer and clean energy advocates working collectively to restore healthy, sustainable wild salmon to the rivers, streams and oceans of the Pacific Salmon states. Our efforts are focused primarily on the Columbia and Snake River Basin, where more than 15 million wild salmon once returned each year. Today, fewer than ten thousand salmon return home to the Snake River. Spanning seven western states (Washington, Oregon, Nevada, Wyoming, Idaho, Montana, and Utah), the Columbia-Snake Basin was once home to the world’s most prolific salmon runs. Habitat destruction, poor water management, and dams on the lower Snake River have caused wild salmon and steelhead populations to decline dramatically. Today, thirteen stocks of Columbia Basin salmon and steelhead, including all four remaining Snake River stocks, are listed under the Endangered Species Act. Populations of wild Snake River salmon have shown little improvement since being listed in the 1990s; all are hovering well below levels required for recovery.

Gill Nets Kill

Non-selective, deadly gill nets are still used in the Columbia River. They burden managers and hamper restoration of threatened salmon, steelhead, and sturgeon stocks. Gill nets kill and maim precious wild fish at unjustifiable rates. This site is dedicated to exposing the truth about this wasteful fishery and helping the citizens of Oregon and Washington put a end to it.
