Process Paper
Welcome to the program! You will be meeting in small groups on Wednesday for the opportunity to get peer review with your academic work. As part of that system a process paper will be due on a weekly basis. The paper should be submitted to me every Monday before the lecture begins, the focus being the events of the previous week. The first paper will be due Monday October 1st.
The purpose of this paper is to get your feedback on your progress during this quarter. For a great number of you this is your first experience in college and perhaps even your first experience away from home. Personal life, habits, ways of conserving and dissipating energy, etc., all affect you academically.
In this paper, which should not be more than a page long, write about what you have read during the week, including the number of pages. Write about your ability to understand and concentrate on the material. Observe your ability to keep focused in lectures, include those things that interfere with the art of listening. Comments on your participation in seminar and the value of your process group are all appropriate. Like all your work, your paper should be typed, double spaced.
On a more personal note, pay attention to daily habits. Are you getting enough sleep? What are your study habits? Do you set specific times for studying? Do you watch television and try to study? Are your eating habits healthy? What do you do for exercise? Are the days when you are not in class organised or messy? Are you having trouble with drugs/alcohol? If you wish not to discuss this latter subject on paper you can talk to Jean personally.
As your faculty, we shall try to give you as positive and fruitful a learning and personal experience as possible. Join with us!
