Read An Anthropologist on Mars, preface and pages 1 - 152 for Monday; pages 153-304 for Thursday.
The written assignment for this week is an essay (1-2 pages), with the following title:

Discuss this statement with examples from your direct experience. The (typed, double spaced) essay is due Thursday in seminar.
Note that your process paper for this week is due on Monday (to Jean) at the start of class. Please reread the instruction for the process paper (see under "Handouts") to make sure you're addressing all the points mentioned in the assignment.
