CINEMATIC GARMENTS OF MEMORIA

During the next two quarters I will focus my creative energies in pursuit of an exploration into the garments of my past, present and future, and the memories attached to them. I would like to combine still images, film footage and the garments themselves into a woven fairytale of light to be displayed in an art installation fashion show. For this show I will incorporate elements of fabric, light, image, animation, body and music to create a spatial experience of what these clothes have meant and continue to mean to my life. The end performance of this delight shall be reminiscent of the twelve dancing princesses rock opera that currently lives only in my imagination. A combination of performance and projection dancing across the stage and screen. Imagine a dark room... images project upon the screen flashing through the history of a girl told in dresses.... suddenly from the edge of the stage two bodies enter and pose, still.... percussion begins and swells the addition of cello and violin, cueelectric guitar.... upon the still silhouettes 16 mm images project in a stream of abstract color painting across their white dresses.....the music fades in and out of melody..... more bodies enter the stage, as they pass through the still image projection the slides change and each body assumes the position of the dress upon the screen.....when the bodies have all passed through, the images begin to change into a woven tale of animation and biography attempting to mesh the imagined with the historical.

   My time over the next two quarters will be distributed between :

   Sewing in the costume shop creating the clothes of today

          Exploring the 12 trunks of clothes I have in storage

   Filming the garments in motion

 Writing and reflecting upon what I remember

           Pouring through journals to recover lost moments

   Animating in the 2d lab the tales of dresses

   Recording the songs I sing in my head

   Transferring film to video and editing together a story

    Wandering locations of my past and photographing them

  Exploring boxes of photos from my past and reliving them

    Recruiting bodies to participate in the show spring quarter

          i will be seeking assistance with photography, choreography, camera operators  and possibly musicians or stage hands..
  

COOLYMPIA

For my contribution to the wonder project coolmypia over the next two quarters i will complete the design and creation of a puppet called the sea witch, she is the magical creature that helps to propel the sailboat towards its destination. I will also attempt to orchestrate the artistic direction for the show, for which we are seeking set and prop designers and creators, and i shall design and create the costumes for the live actors on the show. In addition to these roles i am interested in experimenting in the 2d animation lab with fabric and bits of scraps to create short segments that may be featured on the show.
