It’s Personal
Title: YeYe
Synopsis and Timeline: This piece have a couple different pieces that will be inter cut. The first is a scene of a dinner table which it lit so that everything outside of the table is dark. There are about five people at this dinner table, including myself. Everyone is dressed in the same solid color, possibly even with colored faces. I will be a different color. They are eating the chinese food which covers the table out of bowls with chopsticks. I will be using fork and knife on a plate. This scene will be inter cut with archival family video which I will be getting from my parents. Over it will be voice over (done by me) talking about my relationships with my dad’s side of the family, especially my grandpa. It will explore how I have never really had a relationship with him because of our language barrier. It will talk about how everything I knew about him was things I heard from my dad because I couldn’t speak to him myself and it will talk about my own memories with him.
Production Support: I would like to spend a few hours in the studio to shoot the dinner scene but this could very easily be done in Studio B as long as lighting can be done well in there. I will also need to use the audio studio for the voice over. All of the rest of it will be done in post production on my own computer.
Research and Creative Sources: Readings at this point include:
What Are You? by Pearl Fuyo Gaskins; Check All That Apply by Sundee Frazier; and Half and Half by Claudine O’Hearn. I would also like to watch some film by asian-americans that discuss being of mixed race but I have not found any yet.
Request for Help: I will need help with the in studio dinner scene shoot. I will need 5 to 7 people at this dinner table eating. They must know how to use chopsticks. I will also need 1 or 2 operators although I think one will be fine. I will also need help with the audio recording separately.
