“Vision without action is only a dream. Action without vision is a waste of time. Vision and Action can change the world.” – attributed to Confucius
What is an entrepreneur? What does it take to become an entrepreneur? What role do they play in the economy and society, for good or ill? What role do they play in the rest of the world? What can be done to create more favorable conditions for entrepreneurship to prosper, at home or abroad? Moreover, what steps, if any, can be taken by individuals, society, other businesses or government to encourage better entrepreneurial outcomes- in terms of ethics, morality, the law, and financial and commercial viability? This program expands upon the program Dream to Green: Sustainable Entrepreneurship (Fall 2009, Winter 2010) to provide a more advanced treatment of entrepreneurship as a field of study. It is expressly focused on helping students interested in developing or refining their own individual business plan for a startup venture, whether for-profit or not-for-profit.
This program provides an alternative to individual learning contracts focusing on the preparation of business plans, and allows for the possibility of actively networking with similarly minded individuals, sharing information and perspectives to improve the business concepts and business plans developed by participants in the program. Finally, it also serves as a group setting to seminar on readings from books, articles and reports on more advanced topics and approaches to entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial policy.
Students who successfully complete the program should develop a good foundation for creating their own business, or working with or consulting with others founding or growing their own businesses. It should also help those interested in pursuing advanced studies in business, policy or the social sciences, or seeking employment in the private sector, government or non-profit organizations. Students should also leave the program with a deeper appreciation of emerging issues at the intersection between business and society.
