Licensing

Licensing is one way to limit the role of anonymity on the Internet.

Licensing the internet is a nice thought, but would be very difficult to achieve.

I will basically state what I said in my seminar response paper for the licensing topic.

While this concept is a good idea, the only problem with this is that there are thousands of radio and television stations as opposed to the millions of websites on the internet, thus it would be almost impossible to police every individual website on the World Wide Web.

Generally when something offensive is on a television station and even radio station for that matter, the content is being recorded, so the Federal Communications Commission has a better possibility of hearing or seeing the offensive content and therefore, take the appropriate action (not to mention viewers and/or listeners will more than likely call the FCC to complain) With a website, the webmaster can remove offensive content within in minutes, making it more difficult to prove.

Can policing the internet be something that can be pulled off? I don't think it will ever work.
