Right to life
From Internet: Knowledge and Community
The right to life is one of the most important, if very broad, edicts of libertarianism. It can get rather technical but to put it simply: Everyone has a right to do with their own life what they will, and nobody has the right to forcefully impose in anyway on another life. Slavery, murder, and most taxes are not allowed, unless they are agreed upon by every member of the community. It is when in a community that the right to life gets more complicated. It is easy to make decisions that will inadvertently lead to a member(s) life being affected in a way they did not know about or agree to.
An interesting topic that came up in class is pro-life. In the case of a criminal, he is aware of the laws he is breaking (that he agreed to follow when he entered the community/ city) when he commits a crime and that capital punishment is (depending on the area) a repercussion. I could go further into this and say that because it is such a controversial topic most likely not everyone in the community agreed upon it as a form of punishment, but then again we do not live in a libertarian world. Abortion I think is slightly different. Who has the right to life? By forcing the mother to have the child her life rights are being breached, so the question is whether or not her unborn fetus has life rights?
