EVENT RELEASING THREE CREATIVE WORKS IN OLYMPIA OCT. 23

A New Book From Leticia Nieto, The First Sin Fronteras Album, A Film By Veronica Barrerra

Three creative producers have teamed up to release their works together at an event in downtown Olympia on Saturday October 23, 2010. They will introduce the book, Beyond Inclusion, Beyond Empowerment, by Leticia Nieto, the album Galopa, by Sin Fronteras, and the film Lo Que Me Tocó Vivir/ The Life I Got To Live, by Veronica Barrera.

The release event is “memoria, música, y liberacion.” It will open with a set by Olympia musicians Los Calaveras, and continue with a showing of the film Lo Que Me Tocó Vivir/ The Life I Got To Live, interactive theatre from Pasajeros Playback, readings from Beyond Inclusion, Beyond Empowerment, and a musical performance by Sin Fronteras.

This will take place at The Vault, 425 Franklin St SE, Olympia, from 3pm to 9pm, October 23, 2010. Tickets for this all-ages event are $10, and are available in advance fromwww.brownpapertickets.com/event/129481.

The long-awaited book Beyond Inclusion, Beyond Empowerment, from Olympia’s Dr. Leticia Nieto, provides a breakthrough in the fields of liberation and cultural studies. It presents a powerful analysis of the psychological dynamics of oppression and privilege, and shows readers how to develop skills to promote social justice. It includes personal stories, exercises, visualizations and poetry. The book has roots in developmental psychology, theater, and liberation pedagogy. It was developed through collaboration among Leticia Nieto, Garth R. Johnson, Liz Goodwin, Margot Boyer, and Laurel Collier Smith.
