Darwin Images

I have posted a power point in Week 6 (moodle site)that contains some images related to the Darwin lecture on Thursday. See slides 25-29 for a comparison of Paley/Lamarck/Darwin and the diagram of Herschel’s analogical reasoning and Whewell’s consilience of inductions (without the “confusing” inference arrows).

Olympia Film Festival looking for volunteers

Open reserve update

A laser disk of Muybridge’s motion studies is now on open reserve in the library for those of you looking for additional animal imagery or just interested in knowing more about his work.  There is a station in the back of the library beyond the video stacks for viewing laser disks.  It will be available through the end of the quarter.

Proteus, the film we viewed in class today (Thurs. Nov. 3rd) is now on open reserve for those of you who missed it or want to take a second look.

Monday week 7 meeting

Remember that for the first half of the class on Monday, Nov. 7, we will meet in the Computer Center in L2916 to critique your animal locomotion sequences and your zoo sketchbook work.

Your completed animal locomotion sequence should be saved as a quicktime movie labeled “AL_[your species]_[your name].mov” and copied to the Animal Locomotion folder in the program Workspace folder on Orca.

Biology Review Session

Remember that there will be biology review sessions this afternoon (Tuesday, November 1), 11:45-2:00 and 2:15-4:00. The biology mentors will be available to meet with students in the lounge area outside our studio space.

Field Trip to Point Defiance Zoo (Monday)

Remember that you should arrive at C Lot by 8:45 am. We plan to leave promptly at 9:00 am.

Monday Week 5 Critique

This is a reminder that we are meeting Monday at noon in Library 2619, the Mac Classroom in the Computer Center, to review your animation that is due that day.

Your sequence is due in your cubby by 11:30 am.  Remember to label it properly, “yourname_FS,mov”, so that we can identify you after we download the movie from your cubby.

Field Trip Rescheduled

Our field trip to Pt. Defiance Zoo will take place on Monday, October 31st, instead of Tuesday, November 1st.  This will accommodate the Zoo’s winter schedule that starts on November 1st. We will leave campus at 9 am.  Van drivers should pick up vans at 8:30.  We will return by 5 pm.

Stay tuned for revised schedule for Tuesday November 1st (work-in-progress critique of the animal locomotion sequences and the mid-term exam).
