Summer Letter

August 5, 2011

Greetings! Welcome to the Evergreen academic program, Animal Morphology, Motion, and Mind.  We are looking forward to meeting all of you in September and are very excited about the activities and learning we’ll pursue together in fall and winter quarters.

The program is full and so is the wait list.  If you have made other plans and do not intend to take Animal Morphology, Motion and Mind, please let Registration know as soon as possible so they can release your seat for the next person on the wait list.

On-time attendance the first day of class is mandatory for taking the program. Our first class meeting is Monday, September 26th, 12 pm (noon) – 3 pm.  We will meet in Seminar 2, B1107. If you are a no-show at the beginning of the first day of class, we will release your seat to someone on the wait list.

We have posted the weekly schedule and tentative syllabus, art supply list, and book list on our website: http://blogs.evergreen.edu/am3/  We will post any updates here.

We have also posted a brief questionnaire that will help us get to know a little about each of you before we meet in September.  We would appreciate it if you could complete the questionnaire, save it as a document with your last name as the file name, and email it to Kevin Francis at francisk@evergreen.edu by September 1.

Note that the art supplies and book list are required for activities that will begin the first week of classes, so you should acquire these before the first day of class.  In addition, a materials fee of $50 for fall quarter will be charged to your account.  This will cover the costs of an animation board for each of you, as well as admission fees and a number of other materials that will be used in biology labs and drawing and animation classes.

We have scheduled very full weeks with classes Monday through Thursday.  A series of time intensive projects requiring writing, reading, research, drawing and animation will fill out your schedule.  If you have a job, we strongly encourage you to limit your hours to 15 hours per week; we also encourage you to schedule these hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as much as possible.  Finally, except for Community Connections, the course for students new to Evergreen, we strongly advise you not to enroll in any additional 2 or 4 credit classes as they will make other demands on your time and reduce your ability to do well in Animal Morphology, Motion, and Mind.

Please don’t hesitate to contact us by email if you have questions about the program or about other options if you do not get into the program.  We’re currently off contract so may be a bit delayed in responding, but we will get back to you.

Sincerely,

Ruth Hayes  hayesr@evergreen.edu

      Hi Julia,

Sorry for the confusion. The questionnaire is now linked to the Summer Letter page. You could copy the text into an email, answer the questions and email it to Kevin.
