College Physics – Summer 2014

Here are the Week 4 readings:

• Lecture 9 – Day 18 (Wed. Aug. 20): Ch. 11: 11.1 – 11.7
• Lecture 10 – Day 19 (Thu. Aug. 21): Ch. 11: 11.8 – 11.9, Ch. 12 (skip 12.5, 12.6)

• Exam 2 will be on Day 17 – Tuesday August 19 starting at 9 am in Lab 1 2046.
• The exam covers material in Unit 2: Conservation & Rotations from Days 10 – 16. While the exam focuses on material from Unit 2, some aspects of the material are necessarily cumulative.
• You may use your calculating device, writing tools, ruler, and protractor. You may bring a personally prepared 3 inch by 5 inch note card, as well as the note card you prepared for Exam 1. Scratch paper will be provided.
• The exam will be a mix of conceptual questions and problems (simple to complex).

• Lecture 7 – Day 13 (Wed. Aug. 13): Ch. 9 (skip 9.3, 9.5); Ch. 10: 10.1 – 10.3
• Lecture 8 – Day 15 (Fri. Aug. 15): Ch. 10: 10.4 – 10.7

As requested, here’s a place to arrange your study groups. Comments are open (and also publicly viewable).

• Exam 1 will be on Day 9 – Thursday August 7 starting at 9 am in Lab 1 2046.
• The exam covers material in Unit 1: Motion & Forces from Days 1 – 8.

A student correctly pointed out that the units given for HW3, #11 part (b) are incorrect: the units should be m/s², and not N, since this part of the problem is asking for acceleration. So go ahead and calculate the acceleration and enter that in the answer box even with the incorrect units shown.

Here are the Week 2 Reading Assignments

• Lecture 4 – Day 6 (Mon. Aug. 4): Ch. 5, Ch. 6 (skip 6.5, 6.6)
• Lecture 5 – Day 10 (Fri. Aug. 8): Ch. 7 (skip 7.9 but do read “Conserving Energy” after Fig.7.32 and before Glossary)
• Note that there are only 2 reading assignments this week because of Exam 1 on Day 9 (Thu. Aug. 7)
