Paper Topic 5

For your last seminar paper, we ask that you revise one of your seminar papers incorporating your understanding of programming and linguistics. The topics for each paper are listed on our web page: http://scidb.evergreen.edu/designing-languages The last two papers would be very appropriate choices for this revision. There are two objectives for you to consider in this assignment:

  1. We are interested in how you apply concepts you have learned in linguistics and programming to seminar materials. Applying your understanding is a key element of critical reading.
  2. A key to writing a strong argument in an expository paper is using appropriate evidence from authoritative texts. One of our seminar texts, The Alphabet versus the Goddess, is not an authoritative text on language: it is a controversial best seller written by a non-specialist in linguistics. This is a perfect opportunity for you to appeal to authority in supporting your thesis.
