Kibben & Bartz, In Good Hands, 30 min

In Good Hands explores the sustainable agriculture of the Lacandon Maya, rainforest people of southern Mexico.  The documentary is hosted my Dr. James Nations, an ecological anthropologist with Conservation International, who lived with the Lacandones for three years in the mid-1970’s and has been visiting them since.

The Lacandones practice a complex farming system that cycles forest land from garden plot through regrowth and eventually back to forrest again, allowing them to live in the forrest without destroying it.  As Nations visits three Lacandon elders, the interconnectedness of their culture and agriculture is revealed in story, song, and prayer.
