There are several positions within this group. Depending
on the term, some positions are focused on more than others and new positions
can be created. The main goal is to organize and catalog the massive amount
of materials associated with the Gifts of the First People program and
put it into a usable format. Eventually, a database will be developed
that houses all of this information which will be accessable to everone
via the world wide web.
- Archives
Assistant: Assists in organizing
and cataloging. Occurs on-campus.
- Booklet,
Calendar: Editorial & Production Assistants, Kiosk:
Assists in selecting, writing and editing materials for texts. Assists
with production and includes working with publishing software. Occurs
on-campus.
- GIS
Mapper & Database Linker:
Collection of maps and databases established. Brings plant data into
computer form that can be linked to maps. Works with Web Page Developer
to incorporate these materials.
- Photographer/Videographer:
Documents sites, plants, activities, people and some classes
with still photography and video. Produces prints, digital images, slides
and video footage. Works and editing and cataloging of existing images
and footage. Scanning and possible final products accomplished. Involves
coordination with other students, flexibility in travel times to Skokomish
or other locations and initiative.

Developer: Follows up on work
of former students and collaborates with the project director to complete
a public Program Webpage.

Maintains compost development. Focus is on
implementing an on-going functioning system.
Fall 2003--Craig, Jodie & Kendl
These individuals take the lead responsibility in
care for the Demonstration Gardens including the sayuyay Medicinal Circle
Garden, the peripheral Leaf beds, and the Cultivation (food) beds. A lot
of initiative, consistency, regular travel to Skokomish, and regular communication
with the program director is involved. These individuals learn systems
at the Garden and help coordinate other students needed in activities.
They ensure that equipment is returned to proper places and they establish
and maintain a Demonstration Garden Log.

This is an area that borders the "formal"
gardens and the "informal" plant trail. There are two sections:
wet and dry. These individuals are responsible for planning plantings,
remove invasive weeds, procure plants and carry out planting them.

This individual works with Doris Yepez, to
care for and complete the prairie site.

Eastern Gateway Project
Completes and cares for the Wetland area. Involves
intensive weeding of invasive species, cataloging species present, researching
additional plantings and procurement. Involves hands-ons (muddy) labor.
