awareness

the work

All students should read the description of the program published in the winter and be familiar with the program covenant.

Awareness encourages a uniquely intense relationship to the material. We are cutting back on the program requirements this quarter so students will have more time to devote to their work, especially to their independent projects.

This page lists basic changes in the requirements. The page links you to winter quarter pages where the nature of the work is described. You should also consult the week-by-week page.

Mindmaps will be due every other week. Bill's seminar students do mind maps in weeks 2, 4, 6, and 8. Sarah's seminar students do mind maps in weeks 3, 5, 7, and 9. This will give eveyone the opportunity to see all 50.  Faculty will do a mindmap workshop early in the quarter and students should consult the winter quarter material on mind maps.

Response papers: Only two responses in the spring. Read carefully all the material on essays responding to mind maps from the winter.

Students will split themselves into three equal groups for Monday seminars, into two equal groups for Wednesday seminars, and into peer groups of 5-7 members.  Faculty won't be involved in these groupings, but continuing students should accommodate new students.

Remember that you are responsible for keeping in touch with the work of the program. Make sure you check e-mail regularly and that you are subscribed to the program listserve.

Students must negotiate spring quarter individual study projects with the faculty.  Faculty will use the Independent Study Form to track who is doing what, especially when students are off-campus.  Students may negotiate different work arrangements than those spelled out on the syllabus when they spend extended periods of time off-campus, but these negotiations must take place and be completely settled before the student leaves.

Don't forget that a community service project, and a report on your work, is an important aspect of the work of the program.
