Elizabeth Egan
Hi! You can call me Liz. I am almost 25 years old and this is the start of my third and final year at Evergreen. I am excited about the disciplines that are combined in this class: art, writing, dance, ecology, ethnobotany, environmental studies, botanical medicines, health, cross-chronological learning and classroom paticipation. It feels already that the directions this class can go are limitless, and I find this potential to be an exciting source of energy.
I grew up in small-town Minnesota where I went to public schools. When I graduated from high school, I moved to Minneapolis to attend the University of Minnesota for a year. I decided to take a break from school and become an artist, which was definitely a great decision for my creative health and emotional well-being. For a few years I travelled, worked in the service industry, volunteered with an organic food redistribution non-profit, and shared a huge studio in an old spice factory warehouse.
In 2002, my Sagittarian longing for travel and adventure got the best of me and I moved myself out to Seattle. I lived and worked in West Seattle for a year, biking the hills and meeting the communities living "out west." I had heard about Evergreen many years before--when I was involved in a road occupation and treesit colony actually:)--and decided to apply in the summer of 2003. I am so fortunate to have the opportunities and experiences here at Evergreen.
I was enrolled in Sovereignty throughout my first year, and I was in Gifts of the First People part of that first year as well. Last year I took American Indians and the Constitution and a few electives in the Tribal Governance MPA program. Last year I also took Photography, Spanish, Grantwriting, Journalism, and a small contract on Tlingit Art and Language.
I think this class will be rewarding and refreshing.
