10-01 Harvest Festival Had fun and good soup, had difficulty finding my family at event and got soaked walking to and from campus looking for them. My daughter had a blast dancing to the Tune Stranglers and yelling at the crowd when they clapped.
10-8 Justins wedding I included this because the wedding was very festive of course, and it took place at Miriah Arts in West Olympia.Justin is a true homie that encouraged us to move to Oly and let us stay at his house for a month. I got to help play the first song they danced to a s well. Another fun fact is that Justins uncle Dan, who conducted the service, also performed a ceremony for my partner and I.
10-17 looking into observing Reeves middle scool Arabic focus group ,present info to Val Davis I am a beginning arabic student and heard that an evergreen faculty member is to beconducting a weekly focus group at Reeves Middle School.I was excited about the possability of linking my two classes and worked up a prototype of a handout on counting 1-10 in Arabic. After presenting information to Reeves faculty Val in the Alki program, she said that the class time involved would be limited and we would not know for two weeks if it was even possable. So I scrapped that plan and filed my neat handout.
10-18 Investigate other observation venues, Install Dreamweaver and photoshop at home and read dreamweaver manual. Continue reading teaching with tolerance and start reading pre-school Math book. I procured a cheap copy of dreamweaver and a trial of photoshop. Installed and read Dreamweaver manual then experimented a little. Then I spent quite a bit of time figuring out how to crop pictures and cut and paste heads with photoshop. Hopefully I can bring any new students up to speed with these programs as our program progresses throughout the year.Being a little nervous about working with kids in a structured environment I got some books from the library on education and started a reading. The first is "Starting Small:Teaching Tolerance in Preschool and the Early Grades". It is a good book. I also did some reading in a book entitled "Preschool Math"
10-20/10-24 Talk to Mike at Evergreen daycare in person and come back to talk to Donna to make schedule/exchange papperwork So I talked to Mike the director of the daycare and he let me know what he needed. Then I came back with my daughter took a tour, and met Patrick and Donna. We then set up a weekly meeting time.
10-29 Hang out with the gooeyducks at Evergreen Daycare Wow, talk about Excitement,I probably had too much fun with the kids. When I got there we danced and then colored for an hour. Then we cleaned up our mess and took a leaf walk. It was too cool, 11 pre-schoolers on a walk at once is a lot of energy, then we went back to the center and played outside. I unknowingly stayed a half hour later than I expected, so I said bye for noe to the kids.I also scheduled additional time to come in on monday so I will be observing Mondays 3-5 Pm and Fridays 9-11 or so ;)
Most Mondays 3-5pm Most days included nature walks.Everyday we play outside from 3:30-4 or so, then we go hang out with the slightly younger kids in the Bunny room It is great to see the two groups combine, first on the playground and then in the classroom. The most complicated part of playng outside was rejecting the request to, "be a monster and chase us"
Most Fridays 9-11 AM We hang out inside and make art, tell stories and set up our snack table. Sometimes, we get to go on nature walks. It is a lot of fun to sit with such an attentive audience and read. It is hard to stop myself from making my own art, but if I do the kids loose interest in their own and make me draw for them.
