[edit] Problem

Difficulty acquiring resources (be they time, money, participants, or other vital elements) can be all too common within the life-cycle of a project. Sometimes people cancel on you, materials cost more than expected or some activity takes much longer than planned.

[edit] Context

It takes many different resources to complete each project. Will you need money? How many people will this project require? What special needs do your team members have? Will you need transportation? What skills do you and your team members have that will aid the completion of the project? What skills don't you have? The list can go on indefinitely; it's your job to identify the resources that are specifically needed for your project.

[edit] Discussion

You will need to identify what resources you need. Make a list of different things you need. Brainstorm with team members on all the possible expenditures you'll have. Take inventory of the skills each team member has. Networking is a great way to acquire resources, as you never know who you might meet with much needed skills!

[edit] Solution

Depending on what resources you are lacking in, here are a few ways to make up for them:

Money:

  • Take out a loan
  • Find someone that is willing to invest in your project
  • Look for grants or fellowships
  • Find a sponsor
  • Throw some sort of fund-raising event like a yard sale, movie night, dance, bake sale etc.
  • Ask for donations, especially donation booths at supporting events

Time:

  • Plan ahead
  • Create a buffer for yourself or your team
  • Make a reasonable schedule
  • Ask for help

People:

  • Make plans with others early in the game so they are committed way ahead of time
  • Find back-ups
  • If you're looking for people, post fliers or adds

These are just a few solutions to a few problems that can arise in regards to Resource problems, but it's a start.
