Legal Citation: Communications Act Of 1934 (1934).

  • Passed by 73rd Congress. Shows all laws regarding communications. This one contains some changes added with the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
  • Framework for a historical look and look at terminology.
  • Extremely long. Some parts are completely irrelevant, still a good document.

FCC, "Before The Federal Communications Commission Washington, DC 20554", 15 March, 2002.

  • FCC Inquiry. addresses issues of universal rights, commission authority, state and local regulation, and subscriber policy.
  • Great source of cited statistics and fact. Clears states FCC position and powers in regards to crucial issues.
  • More than half of this is footnotes with citations. Lots of content.

Legal Citation: HR5353. "Internet Freedom Preservation Act", 2008.

  • More commonly know as the "internet freedom preservation act of 2008". Bill to protect and maintain net neutrality.
  • Great source that specially talks about net neutrality.
  • Short and simple language compared to FCC bills.

NCTA V. Brand X, 545 U.S. (2005)

  • Court decision and dissenting Opinion to pivotal service provider classification case.
  • Shows some overturning of Telecommunications Act and deregulation. Cable Providers no longer required to share facilities with competition.
  • Loads of legal jargon. Needed the internet to help me decipher. Many law blogs have commentary on the decision.

Legal Citation: S625. "Telecommunications Act of 1996", 1996

  • Passed through senate in 1996. Allowed for extensive deregulation of telecommunication companies and their activities.
  • Great for history. Used to show events that lead to net neutrality being threaten.
  • Defines a lot of terms. Surprisingly easy to understand, not much jargon.

  • Good look at orginial fears.
  • We now see that ideas and fears about net neutrality have expanded beyond monopolies.

  • great article that doesn't involve issues of internet freedom but how its done and the economic effect.
  • Good explanation of terms. Put them right in front of you.
