In her book Can We Talk About Race Beverly Dnaiel Tatum discusses the ways in which to create a learning environment that truly addresses the needs of a mulit-cultural classroom. One of the tenants of her theory is to affirm the cultural identities of each of the students in the classroom, by teaching from a space of multi-culturalist pluralism. This idea of affirming identities informs my project, which will expand the scope of the concept beyond the classroom to a larger society. The specific locations that I will look to for identity affirmation will be virtual spaces of online identity groups, and the ways and means they employ to create an online identity.
