Step one; sleep in. Step two; hit the gym. Step three; eat authentic fatty French food for breakfast. Step four; procure fine steak, wine, and a set of Bose headphones for the evening. Step five clean house.  Step six: enjoy. When I set out to do our “Beautiful Day” activity the first thing I did was to think about all the simple (easily obtained) things in life I enjoy the most. I decided I would make a list of my favorite things / activities and then build my beautiful day around what I came up with.

When I sat down to write the list it didn’t take long at all. After about five minutes I had a list that consisted of the following: Not working, music, good food, eating out, good wine, spending time with friends, and knowing that I have nothing to do for a day but enjoy myself. The actual list was much longer but these were some of the main highlights. Once I had my list I began to design my day.

The first thing I decided was that on my beautiful day I would do nothing but enjoy myself. No homework, no meeting, and no work I figured this step up would be a key part of the day. Next I decided that I wanted to cook a great meal and eat out in the same day. I decided that since Lauren had to work that night I would eat breakfast out and cook alone for dinner (I would much rather cook alone then eat out alone). After figuring out the food details I knew I wanted to incorporate music into the day in some way. I decided that rather then just listen to my favorite album or something like that I would do something I had been meaning to do for a while… Buy a really nice set of headphones. I am a music fanatic, so some times I want to completely lose myself while listening to an album and that can be hard to do without headphones. Now that I had my activities planed out I was ready to live my day.

The day itself turned out great. The day started out just like had planed. Lauren and I ate at the Bread Peddler and then head off to the store to gather the necessary supplies for the day. After Lauren took off for work I cleaned up the house, put on some jazz, and started cooking. The steak I bought came out great and the wine I choose went perfectly with the meal. After I was done with dinner I sat down with my new headphones and started flipping through my music collection to test out what sounded different up close and what stayed about the same. After Lauren got home we headed down to Swing to have a drink with my good friend Keith and that served as the closer to my day.

All and all this activity was a great experience. The day reminded me that I need to take more time for myself and have days where I just relax in order to keep my sanity in tact. I hope this went as well for everyone else as it did for me.
