The Resilience Factor Resilience is a core necessity for everyone. Some people are lucky enough to be born with high levels of resilience, but the rest of us have to work and learn to maintain and build our resilience. In order to improve anything, a person needs to know what it is and how it works, people must become intimate with their thoughts. What is done with our thoughts determines whether or not our resilience reserves are depleted or built. Building resilience is “… a mind-set that enables you to seek out new experiences and to view your life as a work in progress.” (pg. 26) The Resilience FactorSubmitted by Karen Jones on Sat, 02/16/2008 - 6:21pm.
The Resilience Factor by Karen Reivich, Ph. D, and Andrew Shatte, Ph. D. is a tool to help people become more resilient, and a guidebook full of examples of how to do so using examples from the two author’s research, and first hand experience. The book outlines how to use the seven keys: learning your ABC’s, avoiding thinking traps, detecting iceberg beliefs, challenging beliefs, putting it in perspective, calming and focusing, and real-time resilience to finding your inner strength and overcoming life’s hurdles. The Resilient Factor The Resilience factor was a very “as long as you do what we say you will be a better person” book. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing it’s just not my forte. It was well laid out and easily to fallow but a little too hooky for me. The beginning of the book goes over some of material that will be presented in the book and reviews past ideas and theories that have lead to the resilience theory. The first chapter goes over their process and defining what resilience is, which Includes “ABC”s, avoiding thinking traps, detecting Icebergs, challenging beliefs, putting it in perspective and calming and focusing.

Gratitude letter Makenna, we have been together for close to five years now, the happiest five years I can remember. Before we where together I was struggling with many aspects of life, depression, bad relationships, and poor self-confidence. Then I found you. Over the years I have been able to understand so much about myself because of you. As well as truly appreciate what it is to be with some one as profoundly caring, loving and understanding as you. You have always been there for me through the hard times when I was struggling to find my self, till now when I am fallowing my passions and enjoying life to the fullest.
