Reflections on the EMP field Trip

 

I had a blast on our field trip. The first thing that I really enjoyed was connecting with Sue-Marie on the car ride to Seattle. Despite it still being early morning, we spontaneously slipped into a very authentic disclosure of our lives and our dreams for the future. This started things out on a great note.

When we first got to the museum I had a lot of fun snapping pictures of Delwin, Walter and John. I also enjoyed our tour guide Juan’s cordial group introduction to EMP.

To tell you the truth, spending time at the museum itself was not in itself all that amazing for me. I had been to the EMP when it had first opened up and my memory of the exhibits and available activities was considerably more grand. When I went before they had a terrific James Brown ride/experience, the coveted Jimi Hendrix exhibition, and tons of other videos, and galleries.

That being said, I had a great deal of fun exploring the place with Walter. In my opinion the coolest thing that we did was filming our 90 second “VH1-Style” musical histories. Walter completely nailed his interview and I felt grateful to have witnessed it. mine didn’t come out so badly either.

Of course my hands-down favorite aspect of the day was lunch at Buca-De-Beppo’s. Mark’s entourage was already over there, and so with courageous direction giving from Sue-who was initially not fond of walking along side a freeway under an overpass—our group (Walter, John, Delwin, Sue and I) made it to the restaurant in good favor. We ordered way too much food—mostly pastas- but it was deliscious and I had no inhibitions when it came time to stuff myself. Also, our table’s conversation-particularly between me and that sly-devil Delwin was raucous and merry. I affectionately came up with our band’s name—“Pervy Delwin and the Three Imps”.

Noticing late into the meal that the adjacent table was polishing off a tray of fine desserts, I casually slid over to the head of their table with a ready fork in hand. No more details are needed here. After the meal I was pleasantly taken by the generosity of my table mates who had paid a larger portion of the bill and offered me the delicious leftovers.

The weather for our excursion was simply incredible. Not a cloud in the sky, sun radiantly shining. Belly more than full on the driving home, my lasting impression of our day was deep satisfaction. I knew that no matter how the rest of the afternoon and evening went—the day had already been established as a success.
