Academic Writing: Understanding Arguments

The syllabus will be organized around these three questions:

1. Where does the concept of human rights" come from, and what is its relevance today?
2. What's my own ethical stance on water as a human right?
3. How can the process of argumentation help me understand and contribute to public discussions of these and other issues?

These questions will help us organize our work this quarter, providing threads that connect all of our activities and projects.

We will write a lot this quarter-formally and informally--to develop our understanding of these questions, and to explore a range of ways of using writing to present ideas and information to readers.
