Anchorage

By Tracy McCormick

Straight down through the heart of town
Sleeping Lady consumes the skyline
Anchorage was built right beside her
She shelters the wind from that side
Her presence is most amazing
Never to be denied.
Late in September ribbons of rainbows illuminate the night sky
Days now start to shorten
Aurora borealis guides the way
The crystalline days to come are filled with wonder
This is the season of night’s big sky.
Reflecting sparkles glisten through snowflakes
The mountains are casted shadows with mass, taking up space
The North is covered with a blanket that makes the tree bows hang low
Now that the days have all shortened the next days will start to grow.
As the growth of the sun crosses the sky it curves with their horizon line
The clouds are all lined with silver
Interesting shapes float in the sky
Sun dogs are like ends of rainbows, circular not arched at all
Daydream in the skies of Anchorage the heavens seen close to land.
