Changing Weather

By Loren Nann

Out of the car, rain pours down, cold night air
Enter the terminal, check the bags, clerk gets boarding pass
Enter the plane, walk down the aisle, sit by the window
Engines on, plane backs up, taxis to the runway
Engines rev, louder and louder, brakes release, plane moving forward
Faster and faster, down the runway, nose tilts up in the air
Leaving the ground, heading up in the air, rain streaking past window
Higher and higher, fog and clouds, dreary the vision seems
Popping up from the clouds, like a fish, jumping out of the water
Plane levels off, moon on the horizon shines upon billowing clouds, looks like a
sea of pillows
Further and further, heading south the clouds disappear
Lights on the horizon, looking up from a book, a city appears
Plane slows down, miles of car lights upon the freeway
Lower and lower, passing over buildings, plane hits the ground
Engines cut back, brakes hit, passengers lean forward
Out of the plane, picked up bags, leaving the terminal, to the warm night air
