Stay Right Where You Are

by Denise M. Carpenter

An unassuming building
Ordinary really, just a building
Stands facing the rush
Of every day life
A building where
Like minded people understand
People who hurry about
Full of worries and responsibilities
Greeting the
People who know
No way to
Fill the responsibilities
Are overwhelmed
At the amount of
Care needed
Or time involved in
Caring for the elder
The elder that
Has become housebound
Who receives no visitors?
Has no socializing
Now with old arthritic hands
Hands that
No longer handle
Everyday tasks
Now with eyes blurred
By cataracts
Eyes no longer see to drive
Sit and wait
No one has time
Not the son
Nor the sister
The friends no longer drive
All are busy…
An unassuming building
Houses people of like minds
People who have
Time
Time to visit
Time to socialize
Time to be the eyes
The hands
People who provide
The information to
The assistance
Older citizens
Require to
Stay right where they are.
