Bradycellus nigrinus, Dejean 1829

Identification:
This is a small species (5.2 - 5.7 mm) with a dark brown to black body and infuscated appendages. Clypeo-ocular line incomplete, not reaching eye; third antennal segment pubescent in outer half; prothorax with strong lateral basal bead; basal foveae linear; sides of the prothorax sinuate to almost straight before the sharp hind-angles; elytra with abbreviated, sometimes rudimentary scutellar striae; elytra faintly iridescent, with an evident mesh-like microsculpture; tarsi glabrous on dorsum, terminal segment setose underneath.

Range:
Transamerican in distribution, found from coastal British Columbia to Newfoundland; Kodiak Island south to California and New Mexico.

Natural History:
Occurs in open meadows, either on moist ground with vegetation of Carex and Juncus, or drier Pacific coast grassland.
