Sample pages
Since this project is just beginning, there are important areas for which we don't yet have any material in the database. If you just search or browse randomly at this point you often end up with few results. Here's advice about where to look.
We have considerable material about local marine invertebrates and some families of insects (wasps, ants, bumblebees, ladybugs, and beetles), thanks to work we have mirrored from the Evergreen Biota pages which people studying with Jack Longino and Eric Theusen have created over a number of years. We also have quite a number of botanical illustrations of local plants from Fredrica Bowcutt's students, which you can browse in the Image Galleries. The pages for local birds, amphibians and mammals all have links to other useful Internet resources about those species, though we don't have local observations for them yet.
For samples of current and anticipated content try the Image Galleries on the menu and using the Campus Species Taxonomy list to browse the marine invertebrates pages, or the pages for Vespids [wasps and hornets], Coccinellidae [lady beetles] and Carabidae [ground beetles], as well as: -
- Vaccinium ovatum [Evergreen Huckleberry] - species description.
- TESC Far East Marsh - a journal entry with multiple species observations
- Megaceryle alcyon [Belted kingfisher] - a single text species observation
- Cornus sericea [Red-osier dogwood] - a single scanned species observation
