Calathus fuscipes, Goeze 1777

Identification:
The more robust of our species, with a body length of 10 - 15 mm; recognized by presence of setigerous punctures on both third and fifth interval; the first antennal segment pale, legs piceous to clear red.

Range:
This is a Palaearctic species found in Europe east to Iran. Introduced to North America in 1928. In Canada, known only from British Columbia.

Natural History:
Primarily synanthropic and found on open ground with meadow or weedy vegetation. At TESC this species is known only from a parking lot located near the campus core.
