Calathus grandicollis, Casey 1920

Identification:
This species is smaller and paler than C. fuscipes. The forebody and appendages are pale, but elytra are almost black and strongly contrasting. The prothorax has evident laterobasal margination. Meta-tarsi has external groove of first segment less sharp. The microsculpture is shallow on both prothorax and elytra. Wings are rudimentary. The male protarsi are very broad.

Range:
Found along west coast of North America from northern California to southwestern British Columbia.

Natural History:
Occurs near seashores and dry sandy ridges with xerophytes. At TESC this species may be found near the shores of Eld inlet.
