Scaphinotus angulatus, Harris 1839

Identification:
Frons with narrow, raised, longitudinal lines; prothorax very convex with a deep central furrow; elytra with 14, deep, regular, punctate striae; male protarsi not dilated; males easily recognized by the broad excavated terminal segment of all palps; head and prothorax deep shiny black with more or less pronounced violaceous or coppery lustred elytra.

Range:
Coastal areas from northwestern Oregon to southwestern British Columbia.

Natural History:
Restricted to heavy "Vancouverian" forests. Both larvae and adults are able to hibernate.
