The relative density (trees/hectare) of standing dead and live trees varies with forest age. We will measure the density and composition of live and dead trees in the old-growth Hoh rainforest and second-growth on the Evergreen State College. Small groups will lay out belt-transects, measure diameter, height, and determine species and living/dead status of the trees.
