Final Expressive Project
Nature: Image and Object
Final Expressive Project Assignment
Proposal Due: Friday, May 16
Due: Tuesday, June 3
Your final assignment is to create an artist book or a series of drawings on a topic/theme inspired by nature. You have several choices:
1) make a small edition of books (10+ copies). These would use a simple
structure (accordion, pamphlet stitch, folded paper design)
2) make a one-of-a-kind artist book.
a) altered book
b) hand made book
3) make a series of drawings
This is a major project that should take about 15-20 hours to complete. I encourage you to make preliminary sketches and/or a mock-up book before you make the final one. Please complete the following written proposal for the project. Also note that the book or series of drawings will develop as you work on them. The final product may turn out different from your proposal.
Name _________________________________________
Topic/Theme____________________________________
Who is your audience for this work?
What do you hope the audience will learn about the topic/theme by looking at your book?
Attach a preliminary sketch of the work you plan to do.
How does the shape of the book connect with the topic/theme?
What will be the size of the book? How does this connect with the topic or your method of distribution?
How will you structure the reader’s experience of the book? Will it be linear, random access? If it has pages, how many pages long will it be?
What materials do you intend to use? How do these relate to the topic?
If a book, how will you bind this book?
Describe the images and the text you plan to use. How will you get the images and text onto the pages?
