Karen Jones Interventions 1 and 2 Positive Psychology Elevator RideLifting my mood was easy, I have had a hectic schedule and was in need of a serious mood lifting activity. I decided to spend time with my fiancé. We live together, but with our schedules we really needed the time to just hang out and get out of the house. We went out to lunch and walked around downtown, walking to the water, having coffee, just focusing on the here and now. It was wonderful. I am big on planning my days out, and just strolling along relaxing was much needed. My mood was lifted, I felt rejuvenated. ELEVATOR RIDE For the two mood lifting activities I chose to do them after a hard stressful day of work and the other when I was felling burned out on homework. For the first activity after a stressful day at work, I went back to my apartment and sat down to play my video games, which usually work to calm me down and get me in a more relaxed mood. How ever on this particular day the video games did not work so I decided to try my fall back activity for when the video games don’t work, which is to listen to music. When I listen to music to come down I listen to a lot of upbeat good felling oldies. After about a half hour of listening to this music I was dancing around and felt to be in a less stressful mood, not quite ecstatic but not as stressed out, so it was mood lifting. Activity One: Elevator Ride
1. Lifting Mood- One activity I use to lift my mood is to exercise. I love to be active. Exercising makes me feel good. It gives me energy, and keeps me in shape. It lifts my mood and eases my worries. I like to run on a treadmill, lift weights, play sports, and snowboard. Time is the major obstacle. Trying to find the time to work out is extremely hard. Ultimately I would like to work out every day in order to do so right now I would have to cut down on the amount of hours of sleep I get a night. Working and going to school full-time has been a major obstacle. As well as just starting a new relationship. Trying to balance everything has been extremely difficult. The only thing that I can do right now in my career/school/and current life is to work out whenever I get the chance. |
