All right, I’ve got a really embarrassing confession for you all so try your best not to laugh at me in class next week… I was in a fraternity. I wasn’t in it for long and I didn’t go through the whole initiation process but nonetheless I lived in and was part of a fraternity for my first semester at college. It should go with out saying that most of the experience was pretty terrible (thus me not continuing to live there) however there were a few positive aspects to be found.

The main thing that sticks out in my mind as being something of worth was the sense of community I had with all the people I lived with. I had a similar experience while attending Boise State University due to the massive football program they had. It seem to give the students a common cause they could all rally around which in turn helped to foster that sense of community I spoke of earlier. During our trip to the EMP I got to experience that same sense of community for the first in my academic career here at Evergreen.

Forgiveness – Activity 6

Lisa Wilson

Forgiveness, this is a hard activity for me to do…there is only one person, that comes to mind, who has hurt me and betrayed me in a way that I can not forgive or forget.  I have thought about this activity for days and have put off writing about it because of what is involved.  Bottom line for me is …I am just not ready to forgive her.  I don’t think I can just say, “Okay, I have to get this activity done, so here goes…”  It is not that simple for me.  I will, however, hang on to the paper and when I am ready to forgive this person I will do as the activity says.

A Beautiful Day

“A Beautiful Day”

My beautiful day was yesterday. It was the first Saturday in a long time that I didn’t have school, work, or any plans. I tried to think of a bunch of simple and relaxing things I could do that would still incorporate Seligman’s definition of the ‘full life’. This was the plan I came up with, however, I provided the flexibility to change plans if necessary.

Beautiful Day Activity

My beautiful day happened the week before we went to EMP when I was down in the Bay Area on business.  I took a side-track from work and drove through the wine country up to Harbin Hot Springs.  I hadn’t been to Harbin for about 15 years and it felt good to go back.

My beautiful day started by waking up on a really comfortable bed with soft white sheets in an interesting structure, a Buckminster Fuller style dome.  The inside of the dome was curvy and white like an adobe dwelling.  There were lots of triangular windows and I could see that it was a beautiful day outside.

Delwin's EMP experience

I have been looking forward to the EMP field trip all quarter. I had never been there before and was excited about going. I got to campus at 8 I like to read before class. It was a beautiful day the Gods were smiling on us for sure. The one adversity for me was “the assignment” darn could have put that on my list oh well. At Marks instigation ( he stated that he had started) I and a couple of others joined him.

As the class gathered it appeared everyone was in good spirits. Not really to surprising as this class is one of the most out going classes I have been in. This could be because many if not all of us have taken other classes together. It may also be the nature of the class or it could be a testament to the thought Mark put into deciding who he would sign-up for the class. I was reminded that we are fairly diverse group in terms of age, backgrounds, and aspirations.
